Simon Billington looks at the importance of quality control and innovation to remain at the forefront of the fender industry
Manufactured in Europe, from a military grade, high-tensile Polyester laminate, DEFENDA inflatable fenders provide unbeatable strength and abrasion resistance.
The DEFENDA range is designed for yachts of 15m and above. Swiftly inflated or deflated, volume is reduced by approximately 90% when deflated, freeing up valuable storage space. Inflation is via foot pump, electric inflator or compressor, with even the largest fenders inflating swiftly, when coupled with the appropriate inflator.
“Following extensive material and process analysis, we re-engineered every element of our fenders to create the most advanced product range on the market,” commented Managing Director Simon Billington. “Our construction methods utilise state-of-the-art laser cutting and high-frequency welding techniques, ensuring that seams are even stronger than the fabric itself.”
A newly engineered low-profile valve provides maximum inflation and deflation speeds, while maintaining an airtight seal and ensuring years of trouble-free service. Double thickness webbing attachment loops are incredibly strong and, unlike Stainless Steel, won’t chip or scratch paintwork. Larger fenders come with a load spreading three-point attachment and an optional bridle and ball-raced swivel provide the ideal link between large fenders and a fender line.
Rigorously tested by an independent laboratory, such is the confidence in DEFENDA products that they are backed by an industry leading 10-year warranty.
Gaining exclusive civilian access to military grade materials and designing everything from scratch, here in the EU, has given us a significant advantage
“The best fenders in the world deserve the best covers, so we developed our unique reversible Neoprene cover, called FENDASKIN”. Soft yet durable, they are fade resistant and won’t lose their shape or absorb water. The smooth skin easily sheds grit or salt crystals and flatlock seam technology enables a fully reversible construction, doubling the cover’s useable life.
“We set out to design the ultimate fender and cover solution for large yachts, experimenting with a wide range of fabrics and manufacturing techniques. Manufacturing in Europe gives us the quality of product and manufacturing flexibility to adapt to our customer’s needs. The superyacht industry demands the very highest standards in product performance and quality of finish, which we are very proud to achieve, through relentless attention to detail.”
