The gold standard
Superior Coatings, Better Boating. Since 1999 Propspeed have been optimising your vessel’s performance, reducing operational costs and protecting the ocean
For superyacht owners, engineers and captains, protecting vessel performance is essential to maintaining operational
excellence. Whether preparing for the season ahead or maintaining a high- performing yacht, keeping underwater assets in peak condition ensures efficiency, reliability and lower maintenance.
THE INDUSTRY LEADER IN FOUL-RELEASE COATINGS
Since 1999, Propspeed® has been a trusted name in foul-release coatings, protecting running gear and underwater metals with industry-leading foul-release coating systems. Tried and tested by thousands of captains worldwide, Propspeed consistently delivers improved performance, reduced fuel burn and maintenance costs and sustained value over time, keeping running gear operating and looking its best season after season.
At the core of the range is Propspeed, the original foul-release coating designed to prevent marine growth from bonding to running gear and other underwater metals. The iconic gold coating improves efficiency, reduces fuel consumption and minimises maintenance by protecting underwater metals from fouling and corrosion. The product line also includes Lightspeed™, a transparent coating for underwater lights endorsed by Lumishore; Foulfree™, a coating system for transducers certified by AIRMAR; and Stripspeed™, a solvent- based paint stripper for underwater metals designed to streamline the removal of old foul-release coatings.
UNDERSTANDING FOUL-RELEASE VS. ANTIFOUL COATINGS
The difference between antifouling and foul- release coatings lies in how they prevent marine growth. Antifouling paints use biocides or toxins as active ingredients and are ablative in nature, creating a rough surface profile that gradually erodes to release biocides over time.
Propspeed, on the other hand, is a biocide-free silicone coating that forms a smooth, hydrophobic surface with low surface energy. This extremely low-friction finish prevents marine growth from adhering to underwater metals. Any growth that does form has weak adhesion and is easily removed by water flow or light cleaning. The result is improved vessel efficiency from the day of application, supporting both performance and responsible yachting practices.
INDUSTRY BACKED, PERFORMANCE PROVEN
What sets Propspeed apart is their global network of trained applicators, experienced international sales and technical team, and well-established distribution channels across more than 60 countries, built over 26 years of commitment to the marine industry.
Propspeed works with leading OEMs worldwide and one such partnership is with Horizon Yachts, a globally recognised builder that applies Propspeed to all new builds and recommends application to all owners.
“We want our customers to have the best possible ownership experience,” said Joey Lu, Marketing Director, Horizon Yachts. “Propspeed protects underwater metal components, saving them time and money in maintenance. We apply Propspeed to all our new builds and recommend continued use to our customers to improve their boating experience.”
This collaboration highlights Propspeed’s role as a trusted foul-release coating system for protecting running gear and other underwater metals, helping improve vessel efficiency and support long-term performance.
Propspeed’s impact has also been validated through independent testing. Netherlands-based shipbuilder Padmos, in partnership with Techbinder, a data- driven vessel optimisation technology firm, conducted a third-party test of the Propspeed foul-release coating system on one of their vessels. The results revealed a 4.7% reduction in fuel consumption and a decrease in power usage at cruising speed.
Beyond performance and maintenance, Propspeed also contributes to tackling environmental challenges by helping prevent the spread of invasive aquatic species via propellers and underwater assets.
Propspeed’s coatings ensure that invasive species that try to secure themselves to your vessel’s running gear or other underwater assets are left in the location they belong before being transported into other waters.
Propspeed has become a key component of superyacht maintenance programmes worldwide where performance and sustainable practices are non-negotiable. It is relied on by captains, engineers and boatyards to help improve efficiency, extend maintenance intervals and minimise environmental impact. For superyacht owners seeking long-term protection and performance, Propspeed remains the trusted choice.
