READY TO WEAR
Michael Walsh talks to ONBOARD about the latest innovations in materials and the high performance crew wear designs from Dubarry of Ireland
Crew wear has to be suitable for a myriad of situations and jobs. It has to look professional, feel good, be hard wearing, it even has to wash well. So, just how does all this come together?
A LONG, PROUD HISTORY
Dubarry is a name that needs little introduction to those who sail. Celebrating our 85th anniversary this year we have long been considered the benchmark for high performance, skilfully constructed, sailing footwear. Whilst we are proud of our past, we are still excited by the future and the challenge of producing the best,
most innovative shoes and boots in which to go to sea.
Here, on the west coast of Ireland, the ocean is never very far away from our lives. Despite the harsh Atlantic storms that have carved the coastline and landscape over millennia, our home in County Galway has always looked to the west for sustenance, a livelihood and inspiration, and our creativity has been invigorated through meetings with some exceptional craftspeople who live and work in our homeland and have ‘real life’ experience of what is needed from a crew wear brand.
Launched in 2021 and designed specifically for active use on the water, the Dubarry Aquatech Collection is ideal for crew uniforms and sailing team kit with styles and colours to suit any type of yacht. Luxurious enough to give your crew a morale boost but also hard-wearing and functional, our Aquatech clothing and shoes are made from top quality materials with many technical features built in – and the whole collection can be personalised with yacht name, team logo or brand.
From jackets and fleeces to polos and shirts, trousers, shorts and skorts, there’s a full range of layers for both men and women to outfit your crew in smart, comfortable and functional uniforms with a touch of classic yachting style. And from technical boating trainers to traditional leather deck shoes, we offer a wide choice of footwear with soles that are optimised for use on teak decks. Hats, belts and other classic accessories are also available in colours and styles that coordinate perfectly and complete the look.
The entire collection is also quick-drying, machine-washable and built to last.
Dubarry’s Aquatech footwear range boasts high performance technical trainers, classic hand-crafted deck shoes and flexible, lightweight sailing boots. Footwear has been at the heart of what the brand does for the past 85 years.
The footwear collection delivers excellent breathability, comfort, full freedom of movement, long-lasting durability and uniquely reliable grip in a wide variety of styles that are engineered to enhance your natural agility on the wide range of surfaces you work on during your day.
Dubarry offers the flexibility to create custom made footwear options, tailored to the needs of our customer’s and superyacht owners. With manufacturing taking place in Europe we can offer very reasonable minimum order quantities and quick turnaround times. We have a wide range of leather materials and colours to select from.
THE PERSONAL TOUCH
The Aquatech Collection is designed for custom branding, and most garments in the range are ideal for both heat transfer printing and embroidery. We can supply full sets of crew uniforms or sailing team kit to your chosen embroiderer or printer, along with any technical specs they need.
There are few places a well-equipped explorer yacht can’t travel. Likewise, Dubarry has made it a mission to partner with the main suppliers to this market globally and this is one of our key selling points for sailors and motor yacht owners alike. Where ever and when ever you need your uniforms, Dubarry will be there.
