Interview with Levent Baktır Founder & Chairman, XONE Superyacht Group
Few professionals in the international yachting sector have experienced the industry from as many perspectives as Levent Baktır. A Master Mariner and Maritime Engineer (BSc), Baktır has spent more than three decades working across yacht and ship management, luxury marina operations, maritime training, fleet management, flag state administration and international regulatory affairs. This diverse background has given him a unique understanding of the operational and compliance challenges facing modern yachting.
Today, Baktır serves as an Approved Government Ship and Yacht Surveyor for the Malta Flag Administration and holds senior Deputy Registrar responsibilities within the Cook Islands Registry. He still continues to advise yacht owners, shipyards, family offices and maritime organisations on technical, operational and regulatory matters, while actively contributing to industry development and professional education.
We spoke with Levent Baktır about the evolution of yacht management, the growing importance of compliance and operational readiness, and how XONE is helping shape the future of international yachting.
Who is XONE Superyacht Group, and what makes it different?
XONE Superyacht Group was never conceived merely as a typical yacht management company. When XONE was founded, we observed a recurring challenge throughout the superyacht sector: owners, captains and family offices were often required to coordinate multiple independent providers for technical management, compliance, crew administration, flag state matters, operational support and professional training. While each specialist performed their own role, the absence of a single strategic framework frequently resulted in fragmented communication, duplicated efforts and unnecessary operational risk. XONE was established to close that gap. Rather than acting solely as a management provider, we positioned ourselves as an independent maritime partner capable of connecting all stakeholders involved in a yacht’s lifecycle and aligning them under a common operational philosophy. Although yacht management remains at the centre of our activities, we deliberately avoid defining XONE through a catalogue of services. Owners rarely seek technical management, compliance support, crew administration or refit supervision as isolated functions… What they ultimately require is confidence that every critical aspect of the asset is being considered within a coherent operational framework. Modern superyacht projects involve a complex network of shipyards, designers, class societies, flag administrations and operational teams. Our role is to ensure that technical, regulatory and operational requirements evolve together, particularly during new-build, refit and commissioning phases, where alignment is critical to successful delivery. Alongside these activities, XONE continues to provide technical and operational management, budget oversight, owner representation, registration support, statutory surveys, compliance services and strategic advisory solutions for both private and commercial yachts.
