A comprehensive mental health program for maritime industry professionals continues to move forward.
Maritime professional and nursing student Andreea Moldovan continues to lead her innovative project, “Mental Health 4 Seafarers”, a mental health program designed for professionals across the maritime industry, from yacht crew to cruise and merchant ship personnel.
The program offers practical training, psychological support, workshops, and access to specialized professionals and communities, aiming to improve quality of life and emotional well-being on board, while helping prevent accidents, sick leave, and the growing abandonment of the profession.
This project has received recognition in several international entrepreneurship programs, including Santander X Explorer. On November 13, it will receive an award at Tarragona Impulsa.
It also won financial support from the Social Council of Rovira i Virgili University and the Tarragona Provincial Council, being selected as one of the top three entrepreneurial ideas of 2025 at URV. Moreover, it was chosen to explore how to integrate new technologies into the project and has participated in initiatives such as Lagertha Project and All Women, standing out for its social and systemic impact, its technological approach, and its contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3 and 14).
Currently, the initiative is advancing through a crowdfunding campaign, supported by Santander Explorer and other entities, seeking partnerships and funding to complete the final development phase of the course and its online platform.
“This project was born from my real experience at sea. I’ve lived what many seafarers silently endure: stress, anxiety, isolation, bullying, even harassment. Today, I want to make sure no seafarer ever feels alone again or without the tools to care for their mental health.” explains Andreea Moldovan.
The program already has the support of several Spanish organizations, companies, and nautical academies, as shown on the campaign’s website. It is also building a growing network of maritime communities raising awareness about onboard well-being and encouraging seafarers to share their experiences.
The crowdfunding campaign remains active, and any individual or company in the maritime sector can collaborate and contribute to this positive change in the industry through the following link:
