Voly has launched The Purser Exchange to connect superyacht pursers, a community built to last well beyond a single event.
Ask any superyacht purser about the hardest part of the job, and the answer rarely touches on spreadsheets or invoices. It’s the isolation. On most vessels there’s only one purser. No colleague down the corridor who understands the pressures of the role, no one to call when a tricky crew issue needs a second opinion.
It was this gap that inspired Voly to launch The Purser Exchange, a dedicated community built to connect and celebrate the pursers’ community.The idea took shape earlier this year, when Voly convened filmed roundtables where pursers spoke candidly about the struggles of the role, crew dynamics, and the realities of running superyacht operations.
“The pursers who joined our roundtables, shared the struggles of bouncing ideas and sharing ideas,” says Rachel Lines of Voly. “The consistent theme at the end of each roundtable was one of joy and relief at meeting people living similar professional lives, and having a ‘safe space’ to discuss best practices and solutions.” The real breakthrough came after the cameras stopped. Rather than going their separate ways, attendees swapped contact details, determined to keep talking. This confirmed to Voly that pursers needed a permanent place to stay connected, not just a one-off event.
FROM ROUNDTABLE TO COMMUNITY
What began as a LinkedIn group, backed by monthly webinars, has grown into its own platform: The Purser Exchange. Members can connect through the online community chat, revisit roundtables and webinar recordings, tap a growing Resource Centre, stay ahead of industry updates, and register for events.
