Rossinavi Seawolf X

The Blue Experience
Rossinavi launches the first innovative 43m hybrid-electric catamaran Seawolf X

Rossinavi, the always inventive Italian shipyard, first raised the concept of a sporty, zero-emission, hybrid electric catamaran in 2021, when it muted the idea of project Sea Cat. Now after years of planning and construction, the fruits of their labours have seen the light of day with the launching of Seawolf X.

Looking very much like a sports car on the water this, the first Seacat 40, is a lightweight craft whose hulls and superstructure are all aluminium. The sleek new multihull features an exterior design drawn by Italy’s Fulvio De Simoni who set out to create the boat of the future.

Rossinavi Seawolf XUnbound by convention yet grounded in feasibility, the yachts interior is the work of New York’s Meyer Davis Studio. 10 guests are accommodated across five staterooms, consisting of an owner’s suite and four cabins located in the hull. Outstanding design features include a wide main saloon created across her twin hulls, a spacious sundeck and plenty of exterior relaxation areas. These include a convivial cockpit centred around a plunge pool, an expansive sundeck with sunbathing and living spaces, and a convertible on deck cinema. Altogether, the selections pay homage to the sun, sea, sky, and sand, within a layout amplifying the openness of spaces and curves of the exterior styling.

Inspired by the way in which phytoplankton harnesses sunlight for energy, the yacht uses solar panels to capture clean energy and then stores it in advanced batteries to power the engines and hotel load. The panels absorb sunlight during the day, utilising photovoltaic technology to convert it into energy which is stored in batteries. Energy is released at night, creating a bioluminescent effect rather like glowing plankton.

Monitored and controlled by an artificial intelligence system, described by the yard as “a brain that can learn from observation and predict the needs of guests on board”, the system lowers the environmental impact allowing her crew to implement eco-friendly operational changes to ensure the battery pack keeps its ideal range of 20 to 80 percent.

Rossinavi says Seawolf X can cruise in full electric mode 100 percent of the time on one-day trips, 90 percent on multi-day jaunts, and 80 percent on transatlantic crossings.

When the sun is not shining, two diesel generators can quickly recharge batteries away from the dock and shore power can do the same job in just five hours.
