Adria Docks Croatia

Adriatic excellence

Stjepan Lučin looks at the rich shipping history on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia and highlights the first class facilities and expertise on offer for superyacht refit and repair in this region

The Croatian coast has been attracting sailors from all corners of the globe in recent years thanks to its breathtaking 1000 islands and hundreds of blue flag beaches. The fact that seems to remain still recognised only by the true connoisseurs is that Croatia has a centuries long shipbuilding tradition. Over the years, in some cases, this traditional shipbuilding knowledge transformed into high-end superyacht refit and service specialised companies. One of the most prominent examples is Adria Docks, the company that provides a complete servicing and maintenance for yachts, superyachts, and other types of vessels up to 150m long, on floating docks. Excellent infrastructure and location are some of the advantages, but the long standing tradition from which engineers and employees draw knowledge is the basis of their excellence.

“Having almost a century-old tradition of refit and ship maintenance at this location is certainly an important part of our business as it demonstrates our extensive ‘know how’ in this area, enabling us to successfully sustain our activity for such a long period. On this foundation, we took a significant step forward in 2009 towards maintaining and refitting yachts and superyachts. Since then, the refit activity at Trogir shipyard has evolved, especially since the establishment of Adria Docks in 2018, transforming it into an exclusive destination for yacht owners and management companies,” explained Stjepan Lucin, the director of the company.

Adria Docks ticks all the boxes when it comes to the pre-requisites captains and yacht owners consider when choosing where to entrust their vessel, including geographical location, reputation, and infrastructure, to name just a few. This refit shipyard is in Trogir, one of Croatia’s most precious gems recognised as a UNESCO world historical heritage. It is ten minutes away from the international airport, and in the immediate vicinity of Trogir are Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik.

Bearing in mind all the parameters that go into such an important decision, Adria Docks emphasises the ratio between price and quality. Through innovation and dedicated work and constantly listening to clients’ feedback, they manage to offer top quality refit and service at the most competitive prices in the western Mediterranean. A team of engineers and technicians with decades of experience are a guarantee of quality work, and the Adria Docks’ offer is completed by an experienced client support team, great infrastructure and new investments which are also an inseparable part of their excellence.

Adria Docks features floating docks with a lifting capacity of 8,500 and 800 tons, an equipped shore area, and a jetty with a total length of about 300m, to complete works along the shore or in the docks, as well as service, repairs or modifications of all types of vessels and superyachts up to 150m. A particularly noteworthy part of their offer is the new engine test station with a power of up to 3.4 MW, which provides detailed motor testing before installation or after reconstruction, under real load.

“The test station is an additional value that we can offer to our clients, in the form of the most modern and technically the best test site for propulsion engines of vessels, on the Croatian side of the Adriatic. We provide our clients an overall range of services – from the most basic, such as washing and painting the ship’s hull, to the most complex, which certainly includes testing the power engine on the test bench,” Lučin added.

The company is co-owned by Capax Ltd. specialising in marine engineering and authorised partner of MTU, John Deer, CAT, ZF, Castoldi, DEIF and Asea Power Systems.

Adria Docks in collaboration with Capax also offers oil sampling that provides insights in components ware and tare, preventing major failure, reducing maintenance costs and prolonging equipment lifespan.

Adria Docks pays great attention to quality control, based on certified equipment and certified and trained experts. Their technical quality control is certified by most of the major classification societies, all members of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies). In addition, the company holds 9001:20015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certificates.

This perfectly located, technically proficient and modern facility ticks every box any superyacht could possibly need.
